Athlete's foot is a common fungal skin infection, usually starting as itchy, flaky or cracked skin between the toes. It is easily picked up in warm, damp places like changing rooms, pools and showers.

Why it matters

Beyond the itch, athlete's foot can spread to the soles and sides of the feet and, importantly, to the toenails — where it can cause fungal nail infections that are harder to treat. Catching it early makes life much easier.

Treating and preventing it

Over-the-counter antifungal creams or sprays usually clear it, alongside keeping feet clean and dry, changing socks daily and not walking barefoot in communal areas. At your appointment I can check your skin and nails, reduce any affected hard skin, and advise on keeping it at bay.

Worried about your skin or nails? Get in touch and I will take a look.
